Our team has hands-on experience supporting low-income families and Medicaid-eligible individuals through community-based guidance and resource navigation.
In the past, we operated in a nonprofit-style capacity, without requesting payment from the individuals we assisted. Our goal was to help people understand what services and supports they may be eligible for, and guide them in the right direction.
While we did not enroll individuals directly into Medicaid or government programs, we helped them understand the process and referred them to the appropriate local village, county, or government offices for official enrollment and application support.
Our experience included helping individuals and families with:
- Understanding Medicaid eligibility and available Medicaid-related services
- Guidance on how to use Medicaid transportation services
- Referrals to the proper local offices for Medicaid enrollment
- Helping individuals understand whether they may qualify for SNAP / food stamps
- Guidance regarding Section 8 and housing assistance resources
- Assisting with completing basic forms and organizing required paperwork
- Helping individuals gather and organize tax documents
- Supporting individuals with tax return preparation resources and referrals
- Educating families on healthy eating, basic nutrition, and food budgeting
- Helping families understand how to budget household income and expenses
- Connecting people with local community resources and support services
This experience gave us a strong understanding of the needs of Medicaid-eligible populations, especially families who may struggle with food access, transportation, housing support, paperwork, language barriers, and navigating government systems.
We are familiar with working patiently and respectfully with individuals who need extra guidance, and we understand the importance of making services accessible, clear, and culturally appropriate.
Although our prior work was done without compensation, it gave us valuable experience in community support, eligibility guidance, resource coordination, and helping vulnerable individuals access the services available to them.
